How CBE Is Taught Here

58 TUTORS, ONE PER AREA PER BAND

Mwalimu Peter Kariuki teaches Grade 1 to 3 Mathematics; Mwalimu Nyambura Gitau Grade 4 to 6; Mwalimu Stephen Owuor Grade 7 to 9. Each keeps to their band's strands and speaks English or Kiswahili.

KPSEA PRACTICE BUDDY

A buddy for Grade 6 that drills real KPSEA questions, 560 of them across 11 learning areas, marks each answer and explains it. Try it as a guest, no sign-up.

WORKED ON THE BOARD

Every explanation is written out on an interactive board as it is spoken: the sum, the diagram, the Kiswahili sentence. Read it back, copy it into your notes, ask for it another way.

THE SEVEN CORE COMPETENCIES

Progress recorded on the four-point scale CBE uses — Exceeding, Meeting, Approaching, Below Expectation — learning area by learning area, visible to the parent and the teacher.

SCIENCE PRACTICALS IN 3D

Science and Technology and Integrated Science practicals on a 3D bench, marked on the server, repeatable until the method is theirs.

SCHOOLS AND HOMESCHOOLS

A school connects a class; a homeschooling family connects one learner and a registered CBE teacher if they want one. Both see the same record.

Why Not Just Search The Internet?

Because the internet does not know which strand your child is on this week. Every Mwalimu is anchored to the KICD designs, the schemes of work and the files you upload, and to nothing else: your syllabus and your files are the only truth they teach from.

Questions

Which learning areas do you cover?

Pre-Primary Activities, English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Environmental Activities, Hygiene and Nutrition, Religious Education, Creative Arts, Science and Technology, Agriculture and Nutrition, Social Studies, Integrated Science, Pre-Technical Studies, Life Skills Education, Physical Education, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), plus the Senior School subjects of all three pathways. Each has a page.

Which grades?

PP1 and PP2, Grade 1 to 3, Grade 4 to 6 with KPSEA, Grade 7 to 9 with KJSEA, and Grade 10 to 12 in the STEM, Social Sciences and Arts & Sports pathways.

Where do the answers come from?

From the KICD curriculum designs, the schemes of work and the files you upload, and nothing else. Every Mwalimu is grounded in the strands and sub-strands of their learning area and band; they do not invent facts or pull from the open internet. Your syllabus and your files are the only truth they teach from.

Is it CBC or CBE?

The same curriculum. Kenya renamed Competency Based Curriculum to Competency Based Education; the learning areas, strands and the KPSEA and KJSEA assessments are unchanged. CognitaSTEM uses the current name.

Is this free?

A free account gives you the tutors with a daily allowance, the KPSEA Practice Buddy, the 3D labs and the parent dashboard. Premium adds unlimited tutor time; the pricing page has the current price in Kenyan shillings.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Everything runs in the browser on an ordinary smartphone over mobile data, including the 3D labs.
